The Artist Behind the Patterns & Illustrations

I'm, Bernie Tan, a Malaysian surface pattern designer and illustrator creating uplifting artwork for wallpaper, fabric, stationery, and home décor products. Inspired by personal growth, motherhood, and joyful everyday living, her work combines whimsical storytelling, soft pastel colour palettes, and encouraging themes designed to brighten both spaces and hearts.

My portfolio includes surface pattern collections, feminine illustrations, playful motifs, and meaningful designs suitable for wallpaper, textiles, stationery, gift products, and art licensing collaborations.

Much of my artwork is rooted in encouragement, emotional connection, and self-worth.

When I became a mother, I struggled deeply with losing my sense of identity outside of caregiving. During that season, I began creating uplifting illustrations and affirmation-inspired artwork using the words I personally needed to hear most.

That was how pieces like:

If you’ve explored my portfolio, you’ve probably noticed my love for colourful pastels, whimsical motifs, and joyful illustrations.

I’m someone who feels deeply through colour and atmosphere. Soft pinks, warm greens, cheerful florals, playful animals, and nature-inspired elements naturally bring me comfort and happiness — and that emotional warmth is something I hope others feel through my work too.

Many of my designs are inspired by:

• flowers and gardens
• birds, butterflies, and sea life
• desserts, coffee, and tea
• storybook whimsy
• nature’s textures and colours
• everyday moments of joy

I also enjoy creating abstract artwork and painterly textures inspired by organic forms found in nature.

My work is centred around warmth, encouragement, joyful living, and appreciating the beauty found in everyday life.

Through uplifting illustrations, feminine artwork, whimsical surface patterns, and colourful motifs, I hope to create designs that help people feel inspired, comforted, and more connected to themselves and their surroundings.

I believe the things we surround ourselves with — whether in our homes, workspaces, or daily routines — can genuinely influence how we feel emotionally. That belief continues to shape every collection and product I create.

• I love roller skating, even though I’m terrified of falling.
